Expat Guide – Energy Provider in Luxembourg: Choosing Your Gas Provider
25 Ιουλίου 2017
In Luxembourg, housing units are supplied with gas and/or electricity. When moving, residents must cancel their contract before their departure. If the apartment or house that you found during your housing search requires a gas supply, you will be able to choose your provider.
You will be able to cancel your contract throughout its duration in the event of changes in the contractual conditions or in the provision price. It is your new gas provider who will take care of all of the administrative procedures related to the cancellation. Be sure to respect your contractual period of notice with the former company.
Luxembourg legislation allows you to change gas providers free of charge, provided that your contract is not for a limited time. In such a case, you may have to pay the company’s losses if you terminate your contract prematurely.
You should also be aware that, in the event that your gas provider changes, you should not be subject to any temporary supply outages during the transition. The country’s regulations cover all operating procedures aimed at eliminating the possibility of an interruption.
The ILR, the Luxembourg Institute of Regulation, puts at your disposal a comparator of the offers of providers (french) to help you get started. It is very useful if you have no idea about the country’s companies!
The Institute also offers a support service if you have any questions, as well as a mediation service in case of any problem with a contract or supplier. Don’t hesitate to contact them.
