Social Housing in Luxembourg: Nearly €19 in State Assistance

July 13, 2017

At a time when renting housing in Luxembourg costs an average of nearly €1,000, the diversity of social housing is an increasing topic of discussion in the Grand Duchy.

Housing Minister Marc Hansen recently recalled that, in the past 5 years, State assistance for the construction and acquisition of housing by municipalities increased from approximately 4 million to nearly 19 million euros, with nearly 422 housing units having been added to the country’s social housing stock.

This is a very significant financial effort which proves that the government of Luxembourg is taking the issue of real estate in Luxembourg very seriously.
What’s more, the efforts do not end there. Today, more than 7,000 social rental housing units are being studied or built in the capital, Dudelange, Wiltz, Kelhen, and Sanem. The future price of these units is not yet known.
