14 de agosto de 2017

Becoming a resident of Luxembourg requires some administrative effort at the city hall or school. But the same applies to insurers.

Upon your arrival, you must take out certain types of insurance from authorized Luxembourg insurers. Some are mandatory, while others are recommended.

Mandatory Types of Insurance in Luxembourg

Liability insurance for motorized vehicles: You must be insured in the event of property damage or bodily injury to third parties as a result of driving your vehicle.
This insurance covers compensation to third parties only. Consider taking out additional insurance to protect yourself.

Workers insurance, social security: If you become a resident of and work in Luxembourg, you must be insured against all risks related to social security (sickness, work accident, parenthood, occupational sickness, old age, disability, and addiction).

Non-Mandatory but Recommended Types of Insurance

Private liability insurance: The financial consequences of a problem with a third party can quickly become substantial. Taking out private liability insurance for you and your family is a good way to protect yourself against potential problems involving third parties. This insurance covers you as an individual, pedestrian, cyclist, athlete, property owner, user of electrical tools or appliances, or pet owner, for example.

Home insurance, including coverage against fire, theft, water damage, etc.
