Installation of an electric charging station at home: what you need to know
1 dicembre 2022
To encourage individuals to invest in clean sustainable mobility solutions, Luxembourg has introduced a new "Clever Lueden" financial aid. This takes the form of a subsidy to buy an electric charging station. However, installation conditions must be met to be eligible.
Electric charging stations can be installed by the owners or tenants of a parking space. Only one station per parking space is eligible for public financial aid. Apartment buildings, however, can install more than one station. The location must be situated in Luxembourg, inside or outside a building closed to the general public.
To be eligible for the financial aid, the model of the electrical charging station is also strictly regulated. The equipment must have a maximum charging power of 11 kW. Charging stations must be new and must be installed by a licensed electrician. A list of professionals is available on the website of the Technical Engineering Federation at the address www.fgt.lu.
Before installing a charging station at home, you must first evaluate its characteristics. This step is essential to guarantee the profitability and safety of the system. Charging stations can be divided into two main types: those based on direct current and those that use alternating current. AC powered systems are more affordable and suitable for daily charging.
In terms of station capacity, this must be determined based on the car battery that needs to be charged. The power must also match the type of plug. In Luxembourg, as in most European countries, the standard model is the type 2 plug, also called Mennekes charger, which offers slow charging of a vehicle at home.
Many companies have specialized in advising and installing these stations in private homes. To be eligible for the aid, an approved company must in all cases carry out the installation of the charging station. The financial aid application is composed of two parts, one to be filled in by the buyer and the other by the professional. These forms should then be sent by mail to the local administration office.
Installation costs vary depending on the choice of a specific station, the parking space and the rates charged by the company. On average, it costs between €600 and €1,750 to purchase and connect an equipment.
The value of the financial aid is determined by the type of charging station that has been installed. It covers 50% of the purchasing costs of the station and its technical accessories, as well as of the labor costs with a maximum of €750 for a simple charging system and €1,200 for a "smart" charging station that automatically balances the charging load between various systems. For the installation of a station on four parking spaces or more, the limits increase to €1,200 and €1,650 respectively.
To calculate the precise amount of the financial aid, simulators are available on the Klima Agence website: klima-agence.lu.
The agency is supported by the Ministry of Energy and Regional Planning and appointments can be made with advisors who will guide you towards sustainable mobility.Looking for a house for sale, a flat for sale, a house to rent or a flat to rent in Luxembourg ? Go to Immotop.lu.
