It’s time for spring cleaning!

6 marzo 2019

Between the long months of winter, the return of the sun, and spring just beginning to show its face, a big spring cleaning is essential. Find some tips to give a fresh touch to your interior.

Winter has left its mark and dust has popped up everywhere in your home. There are so many things to clean that it's hard to know where and what to start with. Survey the tasks to be done for a successful spring cleaning.

First step: Sorting

Before getting down to real cleaning, the first thing that comes to mind is tidying up. Between clothes, furniture, objects of all kinds, and papers, you will have to sort out what is useful to keep, and then give away or throw out the rest to make room. This sorting is essential to be able to organize things and put (new) decorations in place or re-arrange your furniture.

Natural household products

As for the cleaning part, anticipate all the necessary equipment so you don’t forget anything and have to postpone the task until later. Avoid household products that are effective but often toxic and not environmentally friendly. The current trend is for good alternatives and a return to the natural (white vinegar, black soap, lemon, baking soda, or even citrus fruits to scent your home).

Ceilings, walls, floors, and windows

Start your cleaning with the ceilings. Some paints should not be in contact with water (so use dry cleaning in this case). Then rub with water and soda crystals.

For the walls, you can proceed in the same way, remove the dust and clean with soap and water, after making sure that the walls are covered with wallpaper or washable paint.

For floors, cleaning depends on the coating. Wood requires polish before shining with a glazer. On the other hand, wash linoleum using a mop. Carpets can be cleaned with a steam cleaner. Use black soap to make tiles shine in all their brilliance.

Before you do your windows, check the weather. There’s no point in doing them in rainy weather because the drops will leave traces. For clean windows, mix water (2/3) with white vinegar (1/3). Use crumpled newspaper or a microfiber cloth to wipe. Start with the outside to judge the effectiveness inside. Wipe in a top-to-down motion.

To each room its quirk

Each room has its own quirk. The kitchen is the one that requires the most energy and time. Indeed, your appliances are concentrated there. For the refrigerator, empty it and clean the trays and the interior with baking soda. Oven racks can also be washed with a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar. Clean the microwave with detergent.

The bathroom is cleaned regularly for daily use. For deep cleansing and to fight against scale, salt mixed with white vinegar will be most effective. To clean black seals, use the pressure washer.

Here you have all the keys for a successful spring cleaning. All you need to do is find the time and the motivation ... Good luck!
