The Grand Duchy has nearly 600,000 inhabitants, of which 52% are from Luxembourg and 48% are foreign

In its report published at the beginning of May, STATEC gives us these recent and up-to-date statistics (01/01/2017) about the resident population of Luxembourg.
The Grand Duchy has a little more than 590,000 people, that being around 11,000 more residents than at the last assessment.
Immigration is always the main source of inflow, even though it is down 15% on 2015. There have been 22,900 arrivals and 13,500 departures, resulting in nearly 9,000 more people.
For the first time in a long time, the Portuguese are no longer the main immigrants to Luxembourg, having been overtaken by the French, although the Portuguese community remains the largest in the country (apart from the Luxembourgers).
One will also note a negative migratory balance for the Luxembourgers, 2,100 of whom left the country as opposed to 1,300 people who moved in. More and more of them are crossing the border, probably because of the cost of living and accommodation in Luxembourg.
As a result of this, today 52.3% of Luxembourgers and 47.7% of foreigners were surveyed, of whom 16.4% were Portuguese, 7.5% French, 3.6% Italian, 3.4% Belgian, 2.2% German, 7.6% from the 28 countries of the European Union, 2.6% from the rest of Europe, and 4.4% from the rest of the world.
The 600,000 people found to be resident in Luxembourg will soon be affected, and with them, the question of accommodation in the rest of the Grand Duchy. The government is seriously contemplating the solutions to the problem. In any case, given the number of people arriving and the number of low level accommodation, one can see why house prices are not coming down.
