Luxembourg: Greener public buildings

19 мая 2017 г.

The Grand Duchy has for a long time expressed the desire to increase sustainable development throughout the country, notably through the new construction standards known as AAA and through the Rifkin project in Luxembourg. And in order to do this, new measures have recently been decided upon by the government.

They mainly target public buildings not constructed using ecological standards. These buildings need to be renovated so that they consume less energy, and they should even be able to produce more energy than they consume.

The government’s aim is to reduce CO2 emissions, but also to be more environmentally friendly in the broad sense of the term: Photovoltaic panels, rainwater collection, wind turbines, geothermal installations and sustainable buildings using wooden materials are all projects that have been tabled.

The amount of the activity required is not yet known, but it would involve renovating some 1,600 public buildings throughout Luxembourg. And all future buildings, of course, will have to respect this new desire for sustainable development.
