Only 7% of the land found in Luxembourg is occupied by houses.

The Grand Duchy is a country known for its many agricultural lands since, according to 2016 Statec report, no less than 85.1% of the total area was occupied by agricultural or forestry holdings.

However, since 1972, this percentage has been declining to allow more and more room for urban construction. In fact, at the time, the agricultural and forestry areas amounted to 93.2%.

In terms of built-up area, the land area increased from 3.1% in 1972 to 9.8% in 2016 on the total surface area.

According to the Statec 2016 report, it is reported that among these 9.8%, 3.1% are "industrial surface areas and others" because there are almost as many roads as housings in Luxembourg.

In the north of the country 1 out of 10 buildings is a farm or an agricultural building. There are about 50 to 80 inhabitants/km2 in the north against 800 to 2100 inhabitants/km2 in Luxembourg City or Esch-Sur-Alzette.

Evidently, even if there’s a lack of housing in the country, you can still find real estate property that suits you among our 25,000 listings found on IMMOTOP.LU.
